Calling downtown critical to the health ofDallas and the larger region, City ManagerMary Suhmon Thursday offered an assessment that tracked an old movie title.
The good: realization of theArts District, construction of major parks, revitalization ofMain Streetand a spike in residential properties.
The bad: a freeway system that walls the area off from other parts of the city.
And the ugly: a tunnel system that winds under downtown office towers, making it “a community of moles.”
“We just never poked our heads up above the streets,” she said.
The city must continue to push for a better downtown, she said, adding that having more fun with the city’s core would be a big boost.
